Beat Of My Heart

A Drumming and Singing Healing Retreat
with Pearls of Islam

“Vocal music is considered to be the highest, for it is natural; the effect produced by an instrument which is merely a machine cannot be compared with that of the human voice. However perfect strings may be, they cannot make the same impression on the listener as the voice which comes direct from the soul as breath, and has been brought to the surface through the medium of the mind and the vocal organs of the body.”

Pearls of Islam

Pearls of Islam consist of Sakinah Lenoir and Rabiah Mali a British duo with African Caribbean heritage. They share songs of praise, words of devotion and sounds of love. They are singer-songwriters who compose and arrange all of their songs. Their music is heavily rooted in traditional Islamic poetry ( Qasaid) and contemporary sounds

The Ladies sit their voices on top of instruments such as guitars. darbuka and djembe and sing both in Arabic and English. Their music has been purposefully intended and created as a means of remembrance( dhikr), praise, reflection, love for the Prophet Muhammed ( peace be upon him) and to instill a sense of tranquility and ease into the ears and hearts of the listeners.

They are one of the first and pioneers of leading Muslim female singers in the UK. They are also passionate community activists who have founded and led numerous projects under The Rabbani Project such as Ladies of Light, Green Deen Tribe and The Salaam Cafe. Rabiah is a trained medical herbalist and founder of Herbal Blessing Clinic she is currently Director and founder of the Black Muslim Women Healing Collective and Sakinah is the founder of the Pearls of Islam Drumming school

Their debut award-winning album ‘Love is my Foundation’ was released in 2019 and received much success and recognition. They have performed alongside some of the leading artists in their fields such as Sami Yusuf, Dawud Wahrnsby Ali, Isam Bachari and many more, they have been invited to share their music all over the world.

“One of the most powerful aspects of drumming and the reason people have done it since the beginning of being human is that it changes people's consciousness. Through rhythmic repetition of ritual sounds, the body, the brain and the nervous system are energized and transformed. When a group of people play a rhythm for an extended period of time, their brain waves become entrained to the rhythm and they have a shared brain wave state. The longer the drumming goes on, the more powerful the entrainment becomes. It's really the oldest holy communion.”
